Where Does the Time Go?

Holy Hannah! I can't believe I've let two months lapse without posting! Where are my priorities? :) As usual, my life has been pretty crazy, but I'll try to update everyone. I have officially been released from primary for 2 whole weeks! It seems so strange to go to Sunday School and Relief Society and actually participate in an adult lesson. I've been both happy and sad about being released. I loved primary and cub scouts and I miss the kids, but I finally have some free time. I feel a little guilty about that, but I'm sure it won't last! (The guilt and the free time.)

Quinn and Kari have moved to Utah and we miss them terribly. Other than that the family is doing really well. The nieces and nephews are getting so big! I love every one of them so much! They really are so fun. It's time for another one (hint, hint Quinn and Kari, but not until you move closer so I can spoil them rotten). :) Mom has been canning like crazy and she has made some really delicious stuff. I love this time of year!

I have to tell everyone what I did last weekend. I had a group of friends over on Friday night and on a whim we decided to play "Ghost in the Graveyard". (They took a little prodding, but I'm persistent if nothing else.) We walked up to my parent's house and played in their yard since it has way more trees and places to hide than mine does. Mom said, "Don't you think you're a little old to be playing kid games?" HECK NO!!! We had a BLAST!! :) For all of you laughing hysterically at the mental picture of a bunch of adults playing a kids game, you should try it. I'm a firm believer that everyone should get in touch with their inner child, no matter how deep it's been buried. :) We had so much fun playing, we decided to do it again with a bigger group.

And last but not least, my final triumph of the summer...I finally had a successful weenie roast! :) For those of you, who don't know, I've planned 4, count them 4, weenie roasts this summer and it has rained every single time! And not just a sprinkle, we're talking a where's the ark type of rain. The fates have laughed hysterically at me all summer. :) But last night against all odds, I finally pulled one off. It was fun!

This weekend, I'm planning on going camping with Jill and DJ, and watching Rhett and Caden play football. I'm afraid that I'll never understand the game, but I just yell and cheer when everyone else does and it seems to work! :) It should be good times!

Oh My Goodness

I'm so behind! Seriously, it's amazing how much goes on and all of the sudden I realize I'm several posts behind. :) So bare with me as I catch everyone up to speed.

Wednesday after work I went hiking with Suzie, Sherma, Quinn and Kristy after work. It was great! (Have you ever noticed how I think a lot of things are great?) It was really windy when we started and I was afraid it was going to be miserable, but the wind only lasted during the first 1/2 mile, which was perfect! It kept us cool and then the rest of the hike we were pretty much in the shade. We went up the same canyon Casey took us for a ride in on Saturday. I've been up there several times and thought the hike was pretty easy. I have since discovered it seems a lot harder after you have ridden a horse up there and let it do all the work. :) Since it was evening when we went, we were lucky to avoid seeing any rattlesnakes. Big relief! (Did I mention we had seen two of the little buggers on our ride Saturday?)

Friday the new Stephenie Meyer book came out - Breaking Dawn! I'm not kidding when I say I was more than a little excited! :) Yes, I've already finished it and yes, it was soooo good! Stephanie and I went to Deseret Book at midnight to pick up our copy and then I stayed at her house for the night and we read until 3:30 am. It was great! Steph is probably the only friend I have who I can actually do that with. (We did the same thing when the final Harry Potter book came out.) And just in case you're wondering, I'm not a crazed fanatic like some of the people coming to pick up the book, I didn't count down, scream or jump up and down like about half the store.

Saturday, Stephanie and I read most of the morning until we had to get ready to meet everyone to go water skiing. 9:30 came way too fast!

Side note: When the last Harry Potter came out, we had plans to go water skiing the next day as well. We didn't take our books with us because we didn't think we would have time to read them and we didn't want to chance anything happening to them. We were both regretting it since the boat had problems and Dave ended up trying to get it running and spent the entire time on the dock visit and with everyone and wishing we could be reading instead.

Steph and I decided we weren't going to make the same mistakes this time, so we took our books with us. We met up with Dee Jay, Keesha, Amber and Chad. (Let me say that any time Steph and I get a new book, we're pretty much a jinx when it comes to boats. True to form, the boat was having problems. We at least got to go for a boat ride this time, but it wasn't running well enough to pull a skier. We did get to play in the water this time, however. It seemed so cold when you first got in, but once you got used to it, it was quite nice.

We finished the day with dinner at Bajio and then went and watched Iron Man. It was different than I expected, but I really enjoyed it. I ran into Troy and Kristy at Bajio. I got visit with them for a little bit. I hadn't seen them since Grandpa's funeral, so it was nice to run into them. We're both planning on going to the reunion in a couple of weeks.

Sunday, I was in charge of sharing time. It was a real challenge to prepare it when I wanted to be reading instead. I did it on keeping our baptismal covenants and I was really pleased with how it turned out. The kids were pretty good, although my junior primary really struggled with "the wiggles". It could have just been me, however, I was antsy myself to get home and finish my book. It was right a the climax and more than a little anxious to finish it. :) Needless to say, the ending was great! Quinn called me as I was on the last page to razz me about not being up to the house. Since Kari and he left shortly after I got there, I'm not sure what the rush was. Since Mom is in Nauvoo with Jim and Linda and Casey was at Oakley's, Dad and I hung out. It was nice and relaxing, but I think he's more than ready to have Mom home.

Monday night was a record. We actually had more boys than girls at FHE. Janell gave the lesson on kindness and she did a great job. And then because it's tradition, we all went down to the arena to see the kittens. :)

FHE

Family Home Evening was even better this week. We had a great turn out and Dee Jay gave a great lesson. Hopefully we'll continue to have more people feel comfortable enough to come. We all made plans to hike on Wednesday after work and go water skiing on Saturday. So we have some fun things coming up. :)

Potluck and Family

I'm not sure I even moved last night! Since I didn't have any meeting this morning. I didn't bother to set my alarm. I fell right to sleep after I posted last night and I slept so sound, the house could have burned down and I wouldn't have moved or cared. :)

Reese and Elijah stayed with Mom and Dad last night, so I went up to spend some time with them before we went to church. I also needed to start my barbecue beef so it had time to cook before the potluck to night. (Yes, it was a new recipe and yes, I'll post it.) Primary was unbelievable. I've never seen the kids that wound up before! You would think it was the day after Halloween and they were all tanked up on sugar. All I can say is WOW, and I was really glad to be done for the day.

When we got back to the house, the barbecue smelled fantastic. My family was more than a little miffed when they found out it wasn't for dinner and I was taking to a singles potluck. Oh well, they the got over it pretty fast when they saw what Mom had made for dinner. :)

The potluck went really well. It was a nice turn out and we ate outside. The weather was perfect! And I ended up with enough barbecue leftover to take back to the family. When I walked back in the house, Josh said "That better not be empty!" (I should harass him more.) Luckily there was enough left to pacify them. :)

Horseback Riding and Swimming

So today was a fantastic day! Casey took Oakley, Mom and I on a horseback ride. It was gorgeous weather and just perfect for our ride. We only road about 6 miles, but that was enough for my fanny. :) Since I don't get to ride very often, I was a little sore by the time we were done. I forgot to take my camera again, so my goal to take more pictures is sorely lacking. But despite that, it was great.

Stephanie called when I go back and wanted to go soak in the hot springs. My fanny was all for that! We called Amber and the three of us had a great time. We alternated between the pool and the hot springs and we were all completely water logged by the time we got out. It was exactly what I needed. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight! :)

Pioneer Day Celebration

We combined our Primary Activity with Shelton Ward for the Pioneer Day Celebration tonight. We let the kids dress up as pioneers if they wanted to and bring something they thought a child might bring on a pioneer trek. We told stories about the pioneers and the handcart companies. We had some pioneer games for the kids to play, as well as a stick pull, and button yo-yo's for them to make and keep. At the end we played music while they march in a "trek" around the church house. It was cute to watch them, but I totally forgot my camera, so no pictures. :(

Prince Caspian

Okay, Kristy, Dee Jay and I went to watch the second Narnia movie - "Prince Caspian" last night. It was as good as the first! My two favorite characters were a grumpy dwarf and a "cute" little mouse. (If you saw the movie, you'll understand the cute reference.) Stephanie would disagree with me had she been with us. She has an extreme fear of mice, which seems to extend to any movie with mice in it, whether real or animated. Pretty funny actually! But she was out of town, so her opinion doesn't count. :) Either way, I give it two thumbs up and highly recommend it.
